PRESS RELEASE

Fuel Fed Bronco Fire

The City of McCook Fire Department responded to a reported vehicle fire at just after 2:00 PM on Friday, September 9, 2005.  Firefighters were on the scene in two minutes and found a 1995 Ford Bronco owned by Darin Stang of McCook fully involved in fire.  The fire appeared to be fuel fed and was being fanned by strong westerly winds making it difficult to extinguish.  A vehicle parked next to the Stang vehicle also suffered fire and smoke damage.

Firefighters had the fire under control and extinguished within six minutes, utilizing two pumpers and fifteen firefighters.

The fire started in the engine compartment of the Ford Bronco.  The vehicle was determined to be a total loss.  Fire also caused considerable damage to the driver’s side and smoke damage to the interior of the second vehicle, owned by Dean and Gloria Liess from Indianola.

Firefighters remained at the scene for approximately one hour extinguishing hot spots and performing the investigation.
