Members
of the McCook City and Volunteer Fire Department were kept busy on the 4th
of July, responding to six emergency calls including two multiple
patient calls nearly simultaneously.
At
approximately 8:45 PM, the City of McCook ambulance responded to rural
McCook to the scene of a grass fire.
Four victims were treated and transported to McCook Community
Hospital with smoke inhalation.
Shortly
after EMS arrived at the fire scene, a call was received at 9:11 PM
reporting an automobile accident approximately 3 miles south of McCook
on South Highway 83 with multiple patients.
The McCook City and Volunteer Fire Department requested
assistance from Good Samaritan Ambulance Service and Indianola Volunteer
Fire and Rescue in transporting four patients from the scene.
“Multiple
calls with multiple patients within minutes of each other really taxed
our system.” Fire Chief
Marc Harpham said. “We
are extremely fortunate that we have a good working relationship with
the area EMS agencies. All of the EMS personnel and the bystanders who stopped to
help, missed out on a lot of the 4th of July festivities to
assist our department and we are very grateful and appreciative of their
dedication and assistance.”
In
all, approximately 16 personnel from the McCook City and Volunteer Fire
Department, one from Good Samaritan Ambulance Service, two from Bartley
Fire and Rescue, six from Indianola Volunteer Fire and Rescue, and
several members of the Red Willow Western Rural Fire Department assisted
with the call.
“We
also appreciate the quick response of local law enforcement agencies
that assisted with traffic and provided us with a safe environment to
work in.”
