The McCook
City and Volunteer Fire Department responded to a reported structure
fire at 910 East 5th Street, just before midnight on Monday,
November 27.
The home
is owned by Greg and Janet Hepp of McCook.
The resident of the home, Renae Stuck and Russell Kennedy,
reported that a fire in the fireplace had spread to an interior wall.
The 911 call was received just before midnight with fire crews
arriving on the scene minutes later.
A fire was located in the wall behind the fireplace and was
quickly extinguished by fire crews.
Firefighters remained on the scene for over an hour performing
salvage and overhaul operations. 16 firefighters and 5 pieces of apparatus responded to the
call.

Chief Marc Harpham would like to remind residents that they should have
fireplaces, furnaces, wood burning stoves, and other heating appliances
inspected on a regular basis by a qualified technician.
