McCook City and Volunteer Fire Department

PRESS RELEASE

ELECTRICAL FIRE

At approximately 5:35 PM on Monday, March 28, the McCook City and Volunteer Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 1003 Sunset Road.  Upon arrival of the fire department, there was smoke exiting from the attic of the house.

It was reported that the resident arrived home to find the electricity was off in her home. She called an electrician who found the fire and advised the resident to quickly call 911 to report a fire in her home.  Virginia Bedore is the owner.  Smoke damage to the house was estimated at approximately $5,000.  The resident’s contents were estimated at a loss of $5,000.  No injuries were reported.

The fire was extinguished shortly after our arrival.  The fire was contained to the attic with smoke damage throughout the rest of the house.  Investigators stated that the fire started from electrical wiring and appeared to have been smoldering for days.

We had sixteen firefighters respond to the fire, one ambulance, one rescue vehicle, and two engines.  We remained on the scene for approximately one and half-hours ventilating the structure, performing overhaul, and salvage operations.
