At approximately 5:35 PM on
Monday, March 28, the McCook City and Volunteer Fire Department responded
to a reported structure fire at 1003 Sunset Road.
Upon arrival of the fire department, there was smoke exiting from
the attic of the house.
It was reported that the
resident arrived home to find the electricity was off in her home. She
called an electrician who found the fire and advised the resident to
quickly call 911 to report a fire in her home.

Smoke damage to the house was estimated at approximately $5,000.
The resident’s contents were estimated at a loss of $5,000.
No injuries were reported.
The fire was extinguished
shortly after our arrival. The
fire was contained to the attic with smoke damage throughout the rest of
the house. Investigators
stated that the fire started from electrical wiring and appeared to have
been smoldering for days.
We had sixteen firefighters
respond to the fire, one ambulance, one rescue vehicle, and two engines. We remained on the scene for approximately one and half-hours
ventilating the structure, performing overhaul, and salvage operations. |
