At
approximately 17:58 PM on Wednesday, December 14, 2005 the City of
McCook Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 1012
East 2nd Street.
Upon arrival of the fire department, personnel reported heavy
smoke coming from the house at that location.
Firefighters
had the fire under control within 20 minutes.
The value of the structure was estimated to be $90,000 with
$50,000 damage to the structure and $35,000 in damage to the content.
The fire
department investigation revealed that a malfunctioning light fixture in
the kitchen was the cause of the fire.
The
structure is owned by Mike Harmon, however no one was home at the time
of the fire. Eighteen
firefighters, along with two engines, two ambulances, and one rescue
unit, spent approximately two and half-hours at the scene extinguishing
hot spots and investigating the fire.
“We
were very fortunate to have the rapid response that we had to this fire.
We responded to an emergency ambulance call that came in at 17:55
PM with our on-duty fire department staff.
We received the initial call for the structure fire at 17:58 PM. Our off-duty full-time crew was on the scene of the structure
fire at 18:04 PM. Our quick
initial response along with our excellent volunteer personnel response
to both incidents allowed us to handle both situations efficiently.”
