McCook City and Volunteer Fire Department

 

PRESS RELEASE

The McCook City and Volunteer Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire just before 4:30 PM on Friday, November 12, 2004.  The home located at 810 West 4th Street, is owned by Chris and Jenna Boley.  Mrs. Boley was at home and went to the basement and noticed the fire.

 

The initial 911 call was received at 4:28 PM and firefighters were on the scene at 4:30 PM.  Upon arrival of the fire department, firefighters reported heavy smoke and fire conditions in the basement with heavy smoke on the main level of the home.  Firefighters had the fire under control within 15 minutes.

 

Firefighters remained on the scene for approximately 2 1/2 hours, extinguishing hot spots and ventilating the structure.

 

The fire started when clothing items stored near the furnace were ignited.  The fire quickly spread throughout the basement and caused considerable fire damage to the basement and considerable smoke damage to the main floor.  Initial damage estimates are $50,000 to the structure and $50,000 to the contents.  The family also lost several family pets in the blaze that were overcome by smoke inside the structure.

 

Twenty-one firefighters and seven fire department apparatus responded to the fire.
