The McCook Heritage Senior Center provides healthy and fun activities for individuals 60 years of age and older. 

The Center is directed and maintained by the City of McCook and West Central Nebraska Area Agency on Aging. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.


Advisory Board

The Heritage Senior Center Advisory Board meets the first Tuesday of each month at 10:00 a.m. at the senior center.  Meetings are open to the public.  The seven members of the Board are appointed by the Mayor and City Council.  The Board advises the Senior Services Director about different issues that affect the senior center.


 

Congregate Meals

Participants in the Congregate Meal Program have the opportunity to socialize while enjoying nutritionally balanced meals.  Hot nutritious meals that meet 1/3 of the recommended dietary allowance are served Monday through Friday at 12:00 noon.  Any person 60 years of age or older or spouse of a senior, regardless of income level may participate in the congregate meal.  There is no fee for the meal;  however, a donation of $2.50 or more is encouraged.  To make a reservation for dinner you must call 345-1760 by 9:00 a.m. the day you plan to eat at the Center.  Diabetic desserts are available for participants who are diabetic.


 

Home Delivered Meals

Home Delivered Meals are designed for homebound people 60 years of age and older.  Meals are delivered to the participant's home between 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon, Monday through Friday, except holidays.  Meals are hot and nutritious, providing 1/3 of the recommended dietary allowance.  The well-balanced meals are prepared under the supervision of a registered nutritionist.  Diabetics can receive low sugar meals.  Participants are encouraged to eat at the senior center as soon as they are able.  Home Delivered Meals are supported by the Older American's Act and the City of McCook so that the suggested donation can be kept at a minimum.  The suggested donation is $2.75 per meal.  Recipients are sent a notice monthly of how many meals they have received.


 

Meeting Rooms

Groups of all sizes meet for lunch at the senior center.  There is no fee for groups of senior centers meeting at the senior center during hours


 

Pool Room

Top

 

The pool room is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.  The pool room has two tables, comfortable chairs to relax in, and a cable television.  There is no charge to use the pool room.


 

Rental

Rooms at the senior center can be rented for different events with the exception of garage sales and rummage sales.  (dining room (capacity 300).   For rental fees and availability please call 345-1760.  


 

Senior Center Staff

The senior center has a staff of ten.  Sue Chipman, Senior Services Director, Cleta Baumfalk and Lois Quigley, Clerk II, Sandy Brown, Head Cook, Tressa Biegler and Donna Blake, Assistant Cook, Harland Daniel and Wayne Daniel, Public Transportation Driver, Paula Missing and Erwin Fredde, Part-Time Maintenance.


 

Volunteers

Top

 

Volunteers are a very important in the operation of the Heritage Senior Center.  Volunteer positions include, delivering meals for the Home Delivered Meal program, receptionist, hostess, table setters, and servers.  For more information on the Volunteer Program please call 345-1760.
