About the Park Barnett park is located just off South Highway 83 on the south edge of McCook, laid out over 45 acres. The Republican River runs along the south edge of the park. This park is the home for many different types of waterfowl as well as a retired M60A1 Battle Tank donated by the Army National Guard for display. So that people can fish, there are two sand pits at Barnett Park that are stocked with various types of fish every year by generous private donations. Individuals 16 years of age and older are required to have a Nebraska fishing license. Visit the park and enjoy the five lighted fountains! (Swimming, boating and ice skating are prohibited.) Amenities There are two pavilions at this location that are used for family gatherings and community events. There are also two sand volleyball courts, two backstops for baseball and softball, and soccer fields. Public restrooms are availabe on the west side of the park but closed during the cold and winter months. Reservations Reservations are not accepted at this park as events are held on a first-come, first-server basis only. However, if you are planning a large event, please contact the City Offices at (308) 345-2022, ext. 230 for more information. | ![]() | |
