WELCOME FROM MCCOOK MAYOR LINDA TAYLOR!
Welcome to the website for one of the best kept secrets in the United States of America---McCook, Nebraska. McCook with a population of approximately 8,000 is in the southwest Nebraska and northwest Kansas area. It is the commercial, educational, medical, and cultural hub of the region for approximately 40,000 shoppers.
McCook has long been a center of political activity in Nebraska. This lively town was the home of United States Senator George W. Norris, one of the most influential figures in the history of American politics. He is the father of Nebraska's Unicameral, the Tennessee Valley Authority, the Lame Duck Amendment, and helped with the establishment of the Rural Electrification Administration. It was also the home of four governors of Nebraska: Ralph G. Brooks, Frank Brenner Morrison, Dave Hieneman, and E. Benjamin Nelson who later became a United States Senator.
McCook is a great place to live, whether you are just starting out or ready to retire. We have numerous churches, a strong educational system (including both public and private) as well as McCook Community College, the first 2 year college in the state of Nebraska. We are in the process of building a new swimming pool and a new baseball, softball, soccer complex that will be utilized by McCook Community College teams, public school teams, club teams, Legion teams, and our YMCA. We have several licensed daycare centers. Our Heritage Hills Golf Course offers 18 holes. We are in the middle of 3 lakes for fishing, camping, and water sports. Hunters will enjoy deer, pheasant, goose and turkey hunting. Our Senior Center is very active in the community and provides daily meals. Amtrak uses McCook as one of five stops in Nebraska and we have a commercial airport offering daily flights to Denver.
We welcome you to come start a business, visit, shop, play, and live here.
