LEAD SERVICE LINE SURVEY AND INVENTORY
VERY IMPORTANT--PLEASE HELP!!!
***Attention All City of McCook Water Customers***
The City of McCook Water Department has been working diligently this past year to accomplish the EPA’s monumental lead line service inventory. This inventory is a federally mandated inventory of all water service lines in the distribution system. The City of McCook is required to supply an inventory of water service lines from the water main to the home. We are requesting help from property owners on identifying the service line entering the residence. The City of McCook Water Department is currently excavating each service in town with our Hydro excavator and acquiring a lot of information. We cannot physically enter each residence in town to acquire the additional needed information.
In the past we sent out a postcard with a link to the survey to try and achieve this goal with extremely disappointing results. Of the 3,600 postcards sent out we received somewhere around 250 responses. I cannot express to you how important this is to our system as we move forward. Without these accurate responses we will see the effects in water rates. If we have no information on a particular water service, the EPA will assume your service line is lead, which means it will go on a list to be replaced regardless. The City will not have a choice in the matter. If we have 2,000 services that are unknown because we couldn’t get a response, we will have to replace 2,000 services that will be assumed lead at the cost of the City Water Department/rate payers.
Again, the city has no choice but to gather as much information as possible by the deadline of October 16. The City of McCook Water Department needs your help by the end of September, so we have time to compile all the information and submit it.
