[ARCHIVED] PREVENT FROZEN WATER PIPES

With the nighttime temperatures dipping to below zero the McCook Water Department wants to remind customers that it may be necessary to leave a faucet drip to prevent pipes from freezing.

HELPFUL TIPS:

- Let a rapid drip of water run from the faucet furthest from where it enters your house.
- Leave cabinet doors open under the sinks so room heat can reach pipes.
- Run both your hot and cold faucets regularly - this helps keep the pipes warm.
- Pipes in unheated areas of the home may need to be heat-taped and insulated.
