[ARCHIVED] Water Watch!

The City of McCook Water Department is issuing a Water Watch that will remain in effect until further notice. This is being done in an attempt to make the public aware of high water usage. Over the past 5 days water production has averaged 4.4 million gallons per day with a peak of just over 5 million gallons occurring on both June 5th and 6th.

While the Water Treatment Plant is capable of producing 6.5 million gallons of water per day, usage greater than 5 million gallons per day causes strains on booster pumps and wells. High flow in water mains can also result in discolored water and occasionally main breaks.

To help reduce water usage the Water Department is asking customers to not use outside water between the hours of 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM each day. Reducing the frequency and length of time that lawns are irrigated also saves water.

The public’s assistance is greatly appreciated during this time.

Utility Director, Jesse Dutcher.
