McCook Municipal Code states that a Water Warning is to be issued when the water system capacity reaches 4.5 million gallons per day for 5 consecutive days. Friday July 6, 2012 is the 5th consecutive day that water usage is greater than 4.5 million gallons per day.
The goal of a Water Warning is to reduce the burden on the water wells and water treatment plant by reducing the amount of water needed to supply customers.
During the time that a Water Warning is in place, outdoor water use, including lawn watering will not be allowed from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM each day. (Municipal code 52.63)
Persons found violating the Water Warning by using outdoor water during the restricted period of 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM are subject to written warnings and additional fees on their water bill. (Municipal code 52.64)
Water usage will be reevaluated on Monday, July 9th to determine if the Water Warning can be lifted.
