McCook Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) 

MEDC is a privately and publicly funded, non-profit organization formed by a group of business and community minded individuals. They are dedicated to building a vibrant economy and maintaining a dynamic business climate where businesses can be successful. They are committed to improving the community and region to position the area for positive growth for McCook and the surrounding area. MEDC consists of a governing board, active membership and a full-time staff.

Housing Study 

This Community Housing Study provides statistical data and narrative information identifying a housing profile and demand analysis for the City of McCook, Nebraska and is comprised of information obtained from both public and private sources. All 2000 and 2010 demographic, economic and housing data for the City of McCook was derived from the U.S. Census and the 2006-2010 american Community Survey. The Study describes the past, present and 10-year projected demographics, economic and housing conditions in the Community, as well as a Five-Year “Housing Action Plan,” identifying recommended housing projects for the near future.

This Community Housing Study was conducted for the McCook Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) and the City of McCook by Hanna:Keelan Associates, P.C, a Nebraska based community planning and research consulting firm. The McCook Planning Commission, local elected officials, an organized “Housing Steering Committee” and the Citizens of McCook, all provided invaluable information.

To facilitate effective both short- and long-range planning and implementation activities, housing demand projections were developed for a 10-year period. The implementation period for this Housing Study will be March, 2013 to March, 2023.

Funding for the Community Housing Study was provided by the MEDC, City of McCook and a Housing Study Grant awarded by the NEBRASKA INVESTMENT FINANCE AUTHORITY. This Housing Study was completed in conjunction with the update of the McCook Comprehensive Plan.

Comprehensive Plan This McCook, Nebraska Comprehensive Plan was prepared as a tool to assist in planning for future stability and development in the City and the respective Two-Mile Planning Jurisdiction. The Comprehensive Plan contains information about existing conditions within the City, including population, land use, public facilities, utilities and transportation. This Plan replaces the prior Comprehensive Plan, prepared in 1999.

The McCook planning process included the development of a general plan, which establishes specific and practical guidelines for improving existing conditions and controlling future growth. The Plan itself presents a planning program designed to identify and develop policies in the areas of Community Growth, Land Use and Zoning, Housing and Residential Development, Transportation Systems, Education and Community/Economic Development.

The Comprehensive Plan was prepared under the direction of the McCook Planning Commission, with the assistance of a Planning Steering Committee, the City Council, City Staff and Planning Consultants, Hanna:Keelan Associates, P.C, of Lincoln, Nebraska.

The Planning Period for achieving the goals, programs and community and economic development activities identified in this McCook, Nebraska Comprehensive Plan is 10 years. The City of McCook Planning Jurisdiction includes the land areas within the Corporate Limits and the area within two miles of the City. The City enforces planning, zoning and subdivision regulations within the two mile limit, in accordance with Nebraska State Statutes.

This Comprehensive Plan for the City of McCook is prepared under the Authority of Section 19-924 to 929, Nebraska State Statutes 1943, as Amended.
